Cosmetic Plastic Surgeons in the UK
If you are looking for cosmetic surgeons that specialise in weight loss surgery in the UK please click here.
Probably the biggest decision in choosing where to go for cosmetic surgery is based on the surgeon.
- What are their qualifications?
- How long have they been performing cosmetic surgery?
- How many times have they performed the procedure that I want?
- Which governing bodies are they recognised by?
In the United Kingdom, a Government body, the General Medical Council (GMC), has set up a register of surgeons in different specialties. This is called the Specialist Register and there is a division for plastic surgeons. To be listed on the Specialist Register for plastic surgeons, a surgeon has to have passed exams in plastic surgery including cosmetic surgery procedures. All of our surgeons are on the Specialist Register.
Also, we believe it is vital that your surgeon has a lot of experience in carrying out cosmetic surgery procedures. In fact, your surgeon should be carrying out plastic surgery procedures on a day-to-day basis.
Highly Qualified Cosmetic Surgeons
In addition, all of our surgeons are members of The British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS). BAPRAS is recognised by The Surgical Royal Colleges (The Royal College of Surgeons of England, The Royal College of Surgeons of Scotland and The Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland) as the legitimate professional bodies representing the field of cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery in the UK. Their offices are situated within the Royal College of Surgeons. All members are eligible to, or have taken up Consultant appointments in plastic surgery in the NHS.

They are taught cosmetic surgery in lectures, tutorials, courses and by demonstration. They are assisted in their early operations by experienced surgeons.
Registered with the G.M.C.
BAPRAS Members are on the Specialist Register of Plastic Surgeons maintained by the General Medical Council. You can always check whether a surgeon is on the Specialist Register by telephoning the General Medical Council Registry line 0845 357 3456.

BAPRAS Members are all eligible to, or have taken up, Consultant Appointments in Plastic Surgery in the NHS.
G.P. Liaison
BAPRAS Members accept referrals from General Practitioners and, if the patients are agreeable, keep the GPs informed of treatments.
Ongoing Training
BAPRAS Members regularly attend instruction and scientific meetings organised by BAPRAS twice a year. They also attend scientific meetings organised by sister National and International organisations.
BUPA Recognised
BAPRAS Members are recognised by BUPA (now Spire), PPP and other Health Insurance companies, although cosmetic surgery is not re-imbursable, many related procedures are part of the medical treatment and reconstructive, and would therefore be covered.
Reputable Hospitals
BAPRAS Members work in reputable hospitals and clinics, ie. the private wings of NHS Trust hospitals, BUPA, Nuffield, Columbia Healthcare, The Wellington, The Portland, etc. Within these hospitals they are working alongside other specialists able to give supporting care, who are also on the GMC Register in their own fields.
Unparalleled Knowledge
BAPRAS Members have a breadth and depth of knowledge so that can fully advise patients of the range treatments available.
Consultation not Sales
You will have a consultation with our member who will give his/her professional medical opinion which is based on his/her assessment of your needs. You will be told if a procedure is not appropriate as well as the range of procedures that would be appropriate to you. At no point will you be sold an operation. We are not salesmen on commission or employed by a profit making clinic or healthcare company whose only motive is profit.
