Patients who are not excessively overweight sometimes have an overhang of skin around the abdomen. Tummy tuck cosmetic surgery treats this problem by removing excess skin and fatty tissue.
A tummy tuck is performed under general anaesthetic. A horizontal incision is made just above the pubic area, between the hip bones on each side and the skin and fatty tissue of the abdomen are separated from the muscle. These areas are then tightened during the tummy tuck. The excess skin and fatty tissues are then pulled downwards and removed. Liposuction may be performed to the area during the tummy tuck if required. Following your tummy tuck operation small drains are placed beneath the skin for the first 24 hours.
After your tummy tuck, a scar will be present across the lower abdomen below the bikini line but will gradually fade. Following your tummy tuck surgery, moderate tissue swelling may persist, for several months before it finally disappears. After a tummy tuck operation, sensation just above the pubic area may be reduced.
Tummy tuck surgery provides a more attractive figure and the ability to wear a wider selection of clothes.
