How to Choose a Cosmetic Surgeon

By 5th December 2016Latest News

Whether you’re looking for breast enlargement, a tummy tuck, liposuction, eye bag removal or any type of cosmetic surgery most people would agree that they want to get a fully qualified and experienced plastic surgeon to perform their operation with all of the aftercare that they would expect.

We do speak to the odd person who isn’t remotely interested in this at all and they simply want the very cheapest operation that they can find even to the point that they are prepared to take the risk of going abroad, despite all the extensive media coverage of what can go wrong. We can’t usually help people like this although sadly we do often get another call from them 6 months later, in tears having made the wrong choice of surgeon and left with a mess. It then costs a lot more to try to mend this (on top of what they have already paid) than it would have done if they had done it properly in the first place.

So, how do you make sure that you are getting it right?

  • Don’t go abroad for a start so that you are at least in the same country as your surgeon if you do develop a problem.
  • Make sure that your surgeon is not only on the General Medical Council’s register but also that they are listed on the specialist register as a “plastic surgeon”. It is not enough to just be a doctor.
  • They should also be a member of BAPRAS. Only surgeons who are qualified to “specialist” level can apply for full membership of BAPRAS and is a good indication that your surgeon is fully qualified and highly experienced.

For free help, advise and information on the cosmetic surgery procedure that you are interested in and to ensure that you get a full BAPRAS member surgeon particular to your requirements in a proper private hospital near to where you live, call 0844 335 6126 and we will be pleased to help you.
