Dramatic Rise In Obesity-Related Deaths
February 23rd, 2010
Researchers are warning that deaths related to obesity may be more common than previously believed. According to the BBC there has been a “dramatic rise” in obesity-related deaths as seen from results of a recent study.
Dr Marie Duncan and colleagues from the University of Oxford’s Department of Public Health and the National Obesity Observatory held the study based on 27 years’ worth of death data and in particular whether obesity was listed as the main cause of death or documented as a contributing factor.
The researchers warned that obesity showed little increase as the main cause of death but evidently the health risks associated with obesity and the condition has lead to an increase in overall mortality and related deaths are more common than previously believed.
Cosmetic Surgery Today
January 23rd, 2010
Finding great deals on clothes, furniture, holidays and even cars, can bring about the impulse buying mode in all of us. It’s hard to walk away on a good saving and we just love a bargain, right?
When it comes to cosmetic surgery and going under the knife for enhancement or reconstruction surgery we should question if it is ethical to be faced with marketing hype, money off vouchers, buy it now and two for one offers.
Cosmetic surgery should be considered a life changing event and your health and well-being should be placed at the very top of the list with both yourself and the consultant that you meet with. On 19 Jan 2010 the BBC One show questioned the ethics behind some UK Cosmetic surgery companies. Working undercover the reporters went into some cosmetic surgery companies, they enquired about surgery and their options and also interviewed a potential patient to see exactly what was being offered and how the procedures were being sold.
Regulations needed for cosmetic surgery

Over the past week several newspapers have reported the lack of regulation in some areas of the cosmetic surgery industry.

The president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Nigel Mercer had voiced his views as part of a series of medical articles on cosmetic surgery. Mr Mercer has said there is a need for tighter regulation and testing of drugs, procedures and implants to offer more protection to patients.
Stiff marketing, cost cutting and increasing media hype have created a worrying cocktail that threatens both patients and practitioners. There is a bigger need than ever before to ensure surgery is to be carried out by an experienced and accredited surgeon and with a reputable and ethical cosmetic surgery company.

Migraine relief through cosmetic surgery
August 13th, 2009
It’s always good to be aware of the myriad benefits that cosmetic surgery can have for patients. Sometimes these benefits get lost in media frenzies, which can overshadow the abundant evidence in plastic surgery’s favour.
Cosmetic surgery is used every day to correct parts of the body that people are unhappy with. It began as a reconstructive surgery to help people with severe injuries get back on their feet and has since developed into an industry that allows people to boost their self esteem through the correction of facial or body features that cause a patient distress – and that’s not to mention the life-saving weight loss surgery like gastric bypasses or lap band surgeries that help to take people out of the danger zones of obesity and get them back on track to obtain a healthy weight.
