Cosmetic surgery patients urged to seek reputable clinics and surgeons
Surgeons in the UK have reported a significant increase in the number of patients reporting complications arising from cheap cosmetic surgery procedures carried out by unethical clinics abroad. This frightening trend has caused the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) to raise awareness of the dangers involved in seeking cheap treatments overseas.
According to The Guardian, more patients than ever are consulting UK surgeons to fix complications caused by botched cosmetic treatments carried out by unethical clinics in countries such as South Africa, Poland, Belgium, Turkey and Thailand, with one BAAPS surgeon alone reporting to have seen more than 16 cases over the last 18 months.
Not only are these cosmetic surgery treatments leading to complications, but research presented at the recent BAAPS conference in Cardiff suggested that 90 per cent of the unethical clinics involved had not supplied any information warning patients that complications might arise.
Even more shocking is that over half of clinics only offered consultation prior to treatments over the phone or online, with no face-to-face meetings with surgeons to discuss the procedure and ensure it was the right decision for them. Worse still is that 39 per cent of clinics failed to disclose any information whatsoever about what the procedure actually involved.
Patients who sought cheap breast enlargement and tummy tuck surgery, among other treatments, have come to regret the decision as their botched treatments – carried out by unqualified surgeons – have caused them to seek professional remedies at home to repair the damage – which has pretty much negated their hopes of cheap surgery.
Patients should always insist on fully qualified, established clinics and trained cosmetic surgeons to help you choose the ideal cosmetic surgery treatment for you – not one you’ll come to regret.
