Being open about cosmetic surgery
There’s always been a lot of debate over whether to be honest when it comes to cosmetic surgery. Many men and women, particularly those in the public eye, seem to struggle with whether or not they want to reveal if they have undergone the knife when their appearance changes.
Due to the remnants of a negative social stigma, many people choose not to, going as far as to flat out lie when asked about it and deny the rumours about whatever procedures they may have had.
Today, Anne Robinson, currently one of the most famous faces on British TV, spoke to The Mirror and subdued the rumours about how her recent promotional photos for her upcoming stint on Watchdog hinted at another facelift.
Originally, Anne underwent the surgery in 2004 – and was completely open about it. Unlike many other celebrities, she didn’t see the problem in telling people she’d had surgical help to achieve her fresh faced look and today even said that there was no doubt that if she’d had further surgery she would tell people.
Making a rarely-acknowledged but significant point, Anne said that she felt it wouldn’t be fair to leave other women in the same age group as her wondering how she achieved her young appearance if she had undergone more surgery. Celebrities that deny surgery could lead to fans feeling inadequate about their own natural appearance, when simply honesty could mean that everybody is far happier.
People like Anne Robinson and other celebrities including Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne are really what this industry needs – stylish, confident people who are proving that you can still be successful even after admitting to having a little help from cosmetic surgery and with their help, hopefully that negative stigma will be blown away.
